Caption

Te Puke had first been introduced to the magic of  the kinematograph, or moving pictures in 1898 and regular showings of  silent movies were held from 1911 in McDowell’s Hall. The Alliance Hall began showing moving pictures and in 1922 a local orchestra was engaged to play during the moving picture entertainments. In 1928 proprietor James Geraghty sold the business and left for Queensland, Australia. This Alliance Pictures Reserved Seat ticked is signed by his son, James Laurence Geraghty, who would have been in his twenties. Image courtesy of Colin John Geraghty (2012).
