John Lucius Davoren (1891-1918)

In 1917 John gave evidence during the inquest of John McKenzie who died in Dunedin Hospital on 16 March 1917 after being knocked over by a motor vehicle. John was working as a commercial traveller at the time:

John Lucius Davoren, commercial traveller, deposed that he was coming out of Mollisons' and saw a motor car directly in front of him, in the act of pulling up. Its speed was about as fast as one could walk. The car knocked the old man down and pushed him a yard or so. His legs were, underneath the car, but the wheels did not go over him. To Mr Moore: The car was backed. Witness was first on the scene. The accident was unavoidable when witness saw it, and the driver did all he could (Evening Star, 21 April 1917, p. 2).

John died at his parents home in Avondale, Auckland, on 12 November 1918 during the 1918 Influenza Pandemic. His death notice appeared in the Auckland Star on 13 November 1918:
