Bridget Jane Bell was born in Wicklow, Ireland, in 1839. After the death of her husband, Richard Kelly, Bridget emigrated with some of her children to Australia in October 1891. She was my second great grandmother - Debbie McCauley (2013).

Bridget Jane Bell was born in Wicklow, Ireland, in 1839. Her father was Joshua Bell. She was known as 'Jane'.

She married Richard Kelly in Calary, Wicklow, Ireland, on 5 April 1858. Richard was born in Wicklow, Ireland, in c1835 to Thomas and Elizabeth Kelly (nee Taylor) who married in c1825. At the time of their marriage Richard was Caretaker of Powerscourt Park in County Wicklow. Later, Richard, in addition to being a farmer, was head game-keeper to Lord Ardilaun in County Galway, Ireland.

The children of Richard and Bridget Kelly:

  1. Elizabeth Annie Kelly (c1859-1922). Born in Wicklow, Ireland, in c1859. Elizabeth possibly immigrated to New Zealand aboard the Glenlora, with her younger brother Thomas, arriving on 29 October 1880. It appears went on to Australia where she married Fairman Land Mann (1863-1936) at All Saints in Woollahra, New South Wales on 19 August 1891. Elizabeth died in Australia, aged 58, on 7 July 1922.
  2. Thomas Henry Kelly (c1862-1942). Born in c1862 in County Galway, Ireland. Joined the Royal Irish Constabulary. Immigrated to New Zealand aboard the Glenlora, possibly with his older sister Elizabeth, arriving on 29 October 1880. Married Elizabeth Crawford (1863-1941) in Hamilton on 5 July 1884. They had nine children together. Thomas was a Cambridge Borough Councillor. He died, aged 80, on 14 October 1842 in Waikato Hospital and was buried in Hautapu Cemetery.
  3. Richard S Kelly (c1864-?). Born in Ireland in c1864. Emigrated to Australia in October 1891 on board the Oroya.
  4. William Kelly (1865-prior to 1891). Born in Corrofin, Clare, Ireland on 5 January 1865. Possibly died before his mother emigrated to Australia in 1891 as he does not appear on either the shipping list or as a beneficiary of his mothers will.
  5. Sarah Jane Kelly (1867-1947). Born in Cloonbur, Galway, Ireland, on 29 March 1867. Christened at Cloonbur, Ireland. She emigrated to Australia in October 1891 on board the Oroya. Sarah never married but worked as a nurse. She died at 72 Hotham Street in Fitzroy, Australia, on 9 September 1947 (No. 9619) and is buried in the Melbourne General Cemetery in Carlton.
  6. Robert Taylor Kelly (1868-1900). Born in Cloonbur, Galway, Ireland, on 17 May 1868. He possibly emigrated to Australia in October 1891 on board the Oroya, being incorrectly listed as Richard S on the passenger list and possibly along with his wife listed as Mary A. Robert died in Prince Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, Victoria, in 1900. He was buried with his mother Jane in Melbourne General Cemetery. 
  7. John Bell Kelly (1869-1901). Born 'John Frederick Kelly' in Cloonbur, Galway, Ireland on 28 December 1869. He possibly emigrated to Australia in October 1891 on board the Oroya. John was killed in action in the South African conflict (Boer War 1899-1902) on 30 October 1891.
  8. George Arthur Kelly (1871-1932). Born in Cloonbur, Galway, Ireland, on 12 July 1871. Immigrated to Australia. He possibly married Ella. His funeral notice records him as being a Corporal South African Army and Sergeant 44th Battalion, AIF during World War I (1914-1918). He died at 95 Mary Street, Fremantle, on 14 October 1932.
  9. Charles Edward Kelly (1873-1957). Born at Cloonbur Number One, Oughterard, Galway, Ireland on 7 April 1873. He emigrated to Australia in October 1891 on board the Oroya. Charles married Isabella Marr Gilmore (1870-1957) at Holt's Marriage Agency at 442 Queen Street, Melbourne, on 10 September 1898. He fought in World War I (1914-1918). Charles died in the Hospital for Mental Hygene in Kew, Melbourne, Australia, on 22 March 1957 (No. 7576).
  10. Alicia Mary Kelly (1874-1942). Born at Cloonbur Number One, Oughterard, Galway, Ireland on 16 September 1874. She emigrated to Australia in October 1891 on board the Oroya. During World War I (1914-1918) she was a Gallipoli nurse for which she was awarded the Military Medal. Alicia married Arthur Rupert Chipper on 7 August 1918. Alicia died of pneumonia on 16 April 1942.

Richard Kelly died in Ballykine, County Mayo, Ireland on 23 March 1879. 

Bridget emigrated to Australia with some of her children in October 1891 on board the Oroya.

Bridget died, aged 84, on 4 August 1923 in East Melbourne, Australia. At the time of death she was living with her spinster daughter Sarah at 90 Hotham St. East Melbourne.

Her will was dated 19 September 1922. It states that she is a widow of Mount Dandenong, Australia. She appoints as executors her daughter Sarah Kelly and Alicia Mary Chipper, along with her solicitors. The Beneficiaries of her will were: Thomas Henry Kelly; Sarah Kelly; George Kelly; Charles Kelly; Alicia Mary Chipper; Robert Lamacraft Mann (son of Elizabeth Annie Mann) and John Fairman Melbourne Mann (son of Elizabeth Annie Mann).
