Tauranga author Sherryl Jordan wrote twelve novels before her thirteenth, Rocco, was accepted for publication and went on to win the AIM Book of the Year (1991).

Sherryl was born in Hawera in 1949 and raised in Normanby, a small town south of Mount Taranaki. She made her first book at age four, and carried on writing throughout her childhood and teenage years.

Sherryl trained in sign language as part of her work as a teacher's aide working with deaf children. In 1989 she was afflicted with Occupational Overuse Syndrome (OOS). After a slow recovery she was able to return to writing.
