Tauranga Hospital opening (6 March 1914).

Tauranga Hospital was officially opened on 6 March 1914, just under five months before the outbreak of World War I, by the Inspector-General of Hospitals Dr Thomas Harcourt Ambrose Valentine (1865–1945). When it was first opened it had a live-in staff of four, a cow for milk supply, and a horse for staff transport. Photograph: Christine Clement.
