Apparently my great grandfather built these buildings.

That's great Rosie. What else can you tell us about your great grandfather?

Sorry I only just saw this question. It was actually John Conway, my G G grandfather. He built the Holy Trinity Church too. John was on one of the first Tauranga city boards/council. His son Bill Conway was also a builder who helped make the Matapihi Rail bridge. Bill had about 6 daughters and a son I think,who all lived in Tauranga, one being my grandmother, Joy. She married into the Entwistle family. They came to NZ from the Peak District in England. Edward Ambler Entwistle (her father in law) owned the cash grocers in the royal arcade in the 1920's! Then he sold that and took over a citrus orchard which is now the Tauranga Girls college. You can see the orchard on old GIS photos on Mapi. Lesley Entwistle his son, worked at the Mann hardware store down at the redoubt end of the strand. He also worked at the cream factory which was at the memorial park round about. He and joy lived in Norris street where PAC n save now is. I think Bill Conway built them the house. It was moved to terrace ave at the mount.
