Tauranga Arts Festival opening (2017).

Tauranga Arts Festival was officially opened by a dawn chorus, Takiri Ko Te Ata, on the morning on 18 October 2017. A waiata was sung to the sun rising across the sea in celebration of our people, place and our artists. Local composer Teraania Ormsby-Teki and celebrated performer Ria Hall were commissioned to create a special waiata to be learned by school and adult choirs. Tākiri Ko Te Ata is a celebration of the power of music to bring people together. This photograph by Lee Switzer is of Tauranga Arts Festival Trust chairwoman Kathryn Lellman at the microphone.
