Topic type:

One of the exciting things about Pop Up Art Sales is that they can ‘pop-up’ anywhere, anytime and often attract accomplished artists looking for an alternative exhibition opportunity.

Creative Tauranga artist members have submitted work for an upcoming sale to be held for two days over Easter weekend.

The ‘Pop up Art Sale’ is an art market cash and carry event aimed at giving artists the opportunity to have a clear out of works that have previously been exhibited, but remain unsold.

These works are sometimes stockpiled and the artist has the dilemma of ‘What do I do with these?’

With the tough economic times over the last couple of years, this sale will give our local artists an opportunity to participate in what could become a repeat event.

Creative Tauranga staff and volunteers are planning to ‘take over’ one of the empty shop spaces in downtown Tauranga for this two day exhibition.

Creative Tauranga Community Gallery curator Angela McKenzie says: “We wanted to create an event that would encourage artists to get involved in a different type of event but it is also important to make it easy for artists.”

“They simply register, then drop their artwork off to us on the allotted day and we will do the rest.

“We are hoping that holding this art sale during Easter weekend will take advantage of the many people in the downtown area during that time.”

This pop-up styled art sale will offer the public a wide range of styles and media to satisfy every possible taste and budget.

Buyers will be able to remove the work directly from the display, pay for it and take the artwork with them.

Not only is this a great opportunity for local artists to get their work out there and be viewed by our community, but this is also a chance to show visitors the stunning work of our local artists.

The purpose of Creative Tauranga is to empower and encourage participation in creativity, to nurture the arts in our community and to celebrate our local artists and the valuable contribution they make to the culture of Tauranga Moana.

Creative Tauranga’s Pop Up Art sale will be open 10am to 4pm at the old B.A. Reader bookstore 26 Wharf Street and be open for two days – April 5-7.
