

Charles Philip Turner suffered a mustard gas attack whilst serving in France during World War I. He was my husband's second great uncle - Debbie McCauley.
Charles Philip Turner was born at Bramley, West Yorkshire, on 6 April 1894. His parents were Oliver and Elizabeth Turner (nee Shipp). He married Margaret Alice Winter at Longbenton Parish Church, Newcastle upon Tyne, on 22 November 1919. Margaret was born at Lanchester, Co. Durham on 3 February 1895. They had four sons:
Charles served in the Army during World War I as Sapper (No: 459589) with the Royal Engineers. He suffered a mustard gas attack whilst serving in France.
Charles was employed as a lorry driver for Hepplewhite & Shaw in Sunderland and was involved in the transport of goods from Tyneside down to the West Country area. He then worked as crane driver for Felling Council, Gateshead. The family lived at various addresses in Gateshead until after the death of his wife on 5 September 1961 when he moved to Wallasey, Cheshire, to reside with his son, Ronald Turner.
Charles Philip Turner died at Wallasey, Cheshire, on 2 April 1976.
