Des.

I see an article on the late George McLeod and regret that we did not see more of him in his later years. Did you know that he was commissioned into the Auckland Regiment in August 1954?  He attended the nr 6 OCTU Course in Waiouru, Major Frank Rennie the Chief Instructor and Brigadier R W K Morrison commanding the Camp and the Course.

George served 4 years in the Auckland Regiment before joining the Hauraki’s. George has a photo of himself which was taken on a Charter Parade in the Auckland Domain 1954. He was a 2nd Lt and the photo shows the Commanding Officer Lt Col Bullen DSO and the Mayor of Auckland about to inspect his platoon. He is clearly wearing the Auck Badges and collar dogs.

I go to see my Member of Parliament, J Banks tomorrow on the parlous state of the TF. John Banks is very pro military and when he was Mayor of Auckland became the Patron of the 3 Auck/North Regimental Association.

 Best wishes,

 Donald K McKenzie
