Mepal in Ely, Cambridgeshire was the last station that 75(NZ) Squadron RAF Bomber Squadron were flying from during the Second World War.
Photographs related to this item are from a trip to see the unveiling of the Bomber Command Association (BCA) memorial (which was built in the Green Park in London, and unveiled on the 28th of June 2012 - by Queen Elizabeth II) and to visit the the Mepal memorial marker to No. 75(NZ) Squadron just outside the town of Mepal, in Cambridgshire... nearly 3 hrs drive from the London BCA memorial.
Thanks to Cpl Denise Boneham for writing in and informing us of the new website for the squadron. www.75squadron-raf-rnzaf.com

Glen Turner. 75Squadron NZ Association Secretary notes that "The Mepal memorial marker to No. 75(NZ) Squadron is just outside the town of Mepal, in Cambridgshire... nearly 3 hrs drive from the London BCA memorial. The Mepal 75(NZ)Sqn marker memorial was not part of the BCA memorial June 28 day. And we never call our Sqns by 75th, or 2nd or 3rd. Please change the header to correctly read "75(NZ) Squadron RAF". This was not an RNZAF squadron, it was an RAF Squadron with LOTS of NZers assigned to it...and the Bomber Command crews flew Operations.. they did not fly Missions"
Of the original image descriptions (...75th... - no longer shown) Cpl Denise Boneham also requested that we "note that the way that the information on this page is written is not how it should be written (it is a UK not US squadron). It should be written as 75 (NZ) Squadron as we do not use nd, th or rd after our Squadron numbers."
We are grateful for the corrections. You will notice from the name of the original photographs uploaded (which we cannot change unfortunately) some of our original errors.
