Ernest Hunter Carter served during World War I.

Ernest Hunter Carter was born in Bennets Junction, Canterbury, in 1881. His parents were Robert Henry and Sarah Carter (nee Thompson) who married in Christchurch, New Zealand, in 1874.

He served during World War I as did his brother, Horace Totara Tawa Carter. In 1915 Ernest was admitted to hospital in Alexandria.

In 1925 he married Jessie Shields Logan.

He died in Wellington in 1956 and was cremated at Karori Cemetery.
