Horace Totara Tawa Carter, known as 'Tawa', was wounded during World War I.

Horace Totara Tawa Carter was born in Kimbolton in 1859. His parents were Robert Henry and Sarah Carter (nee Thompson) who married in Christchurch, New Zealand, in 1874.

He served during World War I as did his brother, Ernest Hunter Carter.

In 1917 he married Sarah Ellen McAteer.

He died in Wellington on 3 October 1959 and was cremated at Karori Cemetery.
