

Katikati born William Henry Busby served during World War I. He was killed in France on 20 January 1918.
William Henry Busby was born in Katikati in 1884. His parents were William Henry and Sarah Jane Busby (nee Barrett) who married in Erigal-Kerrogue, Ballygawley, County Tryone, Ireland, in 1869. The family had arrived in New Zealand on 17 August 1878, part of the second lot of settlers to Katikati.
William served with the New Zealand Rifle Brigade during World War I. He was killed in action in France on 20 January 1918 and buried in the Oxford Road Cemetery in Belgium (reg. 1918/77500).
William is remembered on the Katikati War Memorial which was unveiled in April 1921.
