Tauranga and Districts WW100 Postcard Competition: Oscar Kelly

29 April 1915

Dear Mum,

It's been four days since we landed in Gallipoli. I'm already scared. The trenches are horribly cold. The bully beef tastes disgusting. All the rest of the food is extremely chewy. Is the farm doing okay? I wish I was back home harvesting the wheat. I hope the children are behaving okay. I hope all is well with you. Unfortunately we have already lost many valuable troops, including my friends. What is the meaning of war. My answer is nothing. I hope I shall return home soon. I hope this does not go on much longer. War is no adventure. War is waste. From Oscar.
