Former Tauranga District High School student Nolan Henry Tanner was killed in 1944 during the Italian Campaign.

Nolan Henry Tanner (1920-1944)Nolan Henry Tanner was born on 6 July 1920 and gained his Proficiency Certificate from Tauranga District High School.

He worked as a butcher with his father.

Nolan started his war service at Waiouru in 1941 and was promoted to Temporary Sergeant in 1942.

He arrived in Egypt in 1943. He was killed on 29 July 1944 during the Italian Campaign. He had been attached to the 29th Machine Gun Battalion.

Nolan is remembered in Tauranga's Memorial Grove, two rows of totara trees located on Fifteenth Avenue which stand as a memorial to 41 former Tauranga District High School students killed during World War II (1939-1945).
