Former Tauranga District High School student Thomas Blundell Rimmer was reported missing when his bomber crashed during an air raid.

Thomas Blundell Rimmer (1913-1945)Thomas Blundell Rimmer was born in Foxton on 6 June 1913 (reg. 1913/17870). He attended Tauranga District High School before completing his education in Hamilton.

On 24 October 1938 he married Grace Hutchinson Wakefield in Auckland.

He trained in Levin and gained his flying badge and sergeants promotion in 1942. After further training in Canada and the United Kingdom he was sent to North Africa.

Thomas is remembered in Tauranga's Memorial Grove, two rows of totara trees located on Fifteenth Avenue which stand as a memorial to 41 former Tauranga District High School students killed during World War II (1939-1945).
