Former Tauranga District High School student Frank Sidney Norris was killed in Italy in 1944 whilst serving during World War II.

Frank Sidney Norris (1922-1944)Frank Sidney Norris was born in England on 14 September 1922. His parents were New Zealand born William Norris who married Rose May Kerry in Middlesex, England on 7 February 1918 whilst serving overseas during World War I (1914-1918).

The family returned to New Zealand in c1923.

He attended Tauranga District High School, gaining his Proficiency Certificate.

His basic training saw him in several camps around New Zealand before he was sent to Egypt and then on to Italy. He was wounded in Italy and spent four months recuperating in Alexandria.

Frank returned to action in Italy and was killed on 23 September 1944.

Frank is remembered in Tauranga's Memorial Grove, two rows of totara trees located on Fifteenth Avenue which stand as a memorial to 41 former Tauranga District High School students killed during World War II (1939-1945).
