Leslie Parmenter Stewart was born in Geraldine on 23 July 1895. His parents were James and Emily.

He worked as a painter but was also a hockey player and Hauraki Regiment Volunteer.

He enlisted on 19 October 1915 and served with the Auckland Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion (Serial No. 12/3839). His last recorded rank was Lance Corporal.

he died from disease in France on 5 January 1917, aged 21.
