New Zealand Railways labourer John James Salt was killed in action in France on 12 September 1918.
John James Salt was born in Tauranga on 22 February 1899. His parents were Joseph and Sarah Salt.
He was a labourer with New Zealand Railways.
He was underage, being only 17 when he enlisted on 7 March 1916. He served with the New Zealand Rifle Brigade. His last rank was Lance Corporal.
He was killed in action in France on 12 September 1918, aged 19.
