Motor Engineer William Leslie Poad was killed in action in France on 1 October 1918.

William Leslie Poad was born in Levin on 15 August 1897. His parents were William Henry and Jean Poad.

He worked as a motor engineer and was a Hauraki Regiment Volunteer.

He was underage, being only 19  when he enlisted on 20 September 1916 (Service No. 33602). He served with the Auckland Infantry Regiment, 1st Battalion. His last rank was private.

He was killed in action in France on 1 October 1918, aged 21.
