

Omanawa Schoolmaster William White McLaren was killed in action in France on 5 April 1918, aged 25.
William White McLaren was born in Scotland on 8 December 1892. He was the son of George Dickson and Christina McLaren.
William was the schoolmaster at Omanawa School in Tauranga and a Hauraki Regiment Volunteer from 18 October 1911. He had been resident in New Zealand for eight years, arriving in New Zealand in 1908.
He enlisted on 14 October 1916 and served with the New Zealand Rifle Brigade, 2nd Battalion.
He was killed in action in France on 5 April 1918, aged 25.
