Alfred John Samuel Harris was born in Brunnerton on 19 December 1888. His parents were Alfred George and Jane Harris (nee Pender). Alfred George worked in a Tauranga Diary Factory.
Alfred was as a farmer and a Tauranga Mounted Rifles Volunteer.
He enlisted in World War One on 8 April 1916 (Service No. 15368 - Rifleman) and served in the New Zealand Rifle Brigade.
Alfred was killed in action in France on 7 June 1917. He was aged 28.
