Trooper Arthur Whyte (11/449) served in the First World War as a Trooper in the Wellington Mounted Rifles.
He was single at the time, a farmer and the son of George Whyte of Taranaki. He fought at Gallipoli, was injured in May and again in August of 1915 at Chunuk Bair (gunshot wound, right foot and ankle). He was awarded the 1914-15 Star, the British War Medal, the Victory Medal.
Trooper Whyte returned to New Zealand on the S.S Lusatania in February 1916. Later in life he retired to Mamaku.
He is buried at Rotorua Returned Soldier Cemetery. Trooper Arthur Whyte is remembered by his grand daughter Wendy Whyte of Tauranga.
