At 11am on 4 August 2014 the Tauranga WW100 Committee held a service at Tauranga's Centennial Gates to mark 100 years since the beginning of the First World War. The New Zealand flag in the middle of Elizabeth Street / Te Awanui Drive roundabout also flew at half-mast to mark the centennial. Photographer: Debbie McCauley.

In attendance were Royal New Zealand Navy Lieutenant Commander Gerard McGrath and Royal New Zealand Naval Association national vice president Alby Osborne.
