William George Lomas was from Katikati. He served in World War I (1914-1918) and was my first cousin twice removed - Debbie McCauley.

William George Lomas was born in Katikati in 1897. He was the son of William and Jane Lomas (nee Hamilton) who married on 18 August 1894.

William was a farmer before enlisting in World War I (1914-1918). He embarked aboard the Corinthic with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, 30th Reinforcements Canterbury Infantry Regiment, C Company, from Wellington on 13 October 1917. They were destined for Liverpool in England. He was a Lance Corporal (Service No. 62348).

In 1943 he married Rachel Jackson (née Barraclough). They divorced in 1955 (Hamilton Divorce Files, Archway).

William died in Point Chevalier, Auckland in 1966 and is buried in Waikumete Cemetery.
