White cross for Albert Samuel Wasley (1888-1917).

Tauranga bushman Albert Samuel Wasley was killed in action in Belgium on 4 October 1917 during the opening phases of the Battle of Passchendaele, but has no known grave. In 2014 Tauranga's 'Field of Remembrance' was created comprising 107 white crosses in memory of the men from the Tauranga area who died during World War I (1914-1918). Each cross carries a red poppy and the name of an individual who died. Text and photograph © Debbie McCauley (2014).
