White cross for Guy Clark Wilson (1889-1918) .

Guy Clark Wilson and his wife Merrial farmed at Ohauiti in Tauranga. Three months after their son was born, Guy enlisted to serve during World War I. He was aged 29 when he was killed in action at Bapaume in France on 6 August 1918. In 2014 Tauranga's 'Field of Remembrance' was created comprising 107 white crosses in memory of the men from the Tauranga area who died during World War I (1914-1918). Each cross carries a red poppy and the name of an individual who died. Text and photograph © Debbie McCauley (2014).
