White cross for Tiaki Wepiha Jack Webster (1895-1917).

Caption

Tauranga labourer Tiaki Wepiha Jack Webster was also known as Jack Webster and Tiake Wepiha. He received a gunshot wound to his back in France, dying 10 days later from his wounds on 29 November 1917. In 2014 Tauranga's 'Field of Remembrance' was created comprising 107 white crosses in memory of the men from the Tauranga area who died during World War I (1914-1918). Each cross carries a red poppy and the name of an individual who died. Text and photograph © Debbie McCauley (2014).
