White cross for Angus William Te Poroa Carnachan (1894-1918).

Caption

Tauranga electric lineman Angus William Te Poroa Carnachan was missing the index finder on his right hand. He worked in the New Zealand Rifle Brigade Stores at Featherstone Military Training Camp. Both Angus and his older sister Elizabeth died during the 1918 Influenza Pandemic, Angus at Featherston on 17 November 1918. In 2014 Tauranga's 'Field of Remembrance' was created comprising 107 white crosses in memory of the men from the Tauranga area who died during World War I (1914-1918). Each cross carries a red poppy and the name of an individual who died. Text and photograph © Debbie McCauley (2014).
