Caption

In 1915 Tauranga Harbour Board labourer Ernest Frederick Gordon Crisp was wounded in action whilst fighting at Gallipoli. His recovery took almost a year, and then he was sent to France where he was killed in action on 2 May 1918. In 2014 Tauranga's 'Field of Remembrance' was created comprising 107 white crosses in memory of the men from the Tauranga area who died during World War I (1914-1918). Each cross carries a red poppy and the name of an individual who died. Text and photograph © Debbie McCauley (2014).
