White cross for John Leslie Hartland (1890-1918) .


Te Puke clerk John Leslie Hartland was wounded in action in France on 30 March 1918. He died of his wounds the following day. In 2014 Tauranga's 'Field of Remembrance' was created comprising 107 white crosses in memory of the men from the Tauranga area who died during World War I (1914-1918). Each cross carries a red poppy and the name of an individual who died. Text and photograph © Debbie McCauley (2014).
