White cross for John Gilmore Fenton (1888-1918).


Te Puke farmer John Gilmore Fenton was killed in action during the Battle of the Somme in Northern France on 27 March 1918. In 2014 Tauranga's 'Field of Remembrance' was created comprising 107 white crosses in memory of the men from the Tauranga area who died during World War I (1914-1918). Each cross carries a red poppy and the name of an individual who died. Text and photograph © Debbie McCauley (2014).
