White cross for Andrew Charles Haua (1894-1915).

Bookkeeper Andrew Charles Haua was on board the Hospital Ship 'Delta' when he died on 11 August 1915 of wounds received in action. He had sustained a gunshot wound to the chest during the Battle of Chunuk Bair at Gallipoli. Andrew was aged 21. In 2014 Tauranga's 'Field of Remembrance' was created comprising 107 white crosses in memory of the men from the Tauranga area who died during World War I (1914-1918). Each cross carries a red poppy and the name of an individual who died. Text and photograph © Debbie McCauley (2014).
