White cross for Cecil Sydney Fairs (1888-1915).

After being wounded at Gallipoli, Tauranga coach driver Cecil Sydney Fairs died of dysentery in Malta on 5 October 1915. In 2014 Tauranga's 'Field of Remembrance' was created comprising 107 white crosses in memory of the men from the Tauranga area who died during World War I (1914-1918). Each cross carries a red poppy and the name of an individual who died. Text and photograph © Debbie McCauley (2014).
