White cross for Cecil George Guinness (1894-1917).


Cecil George Guinness worked as a warehouseman for Guinness Brothers at No. 1 The Strand in Tauranga. During World War I he was killed in action at Ypres in Belgium on 19 October 1917.  In 2014 Tauranga's 'Field of Remembrance' was created comprising 107 white crosses in memory of the men from the Tauranga area who died during World War I (1914-1918). Each cross carries a red poppy and the name of an individual who died. Text and photograph © Debbie McCauley (2014).
