Self-employed Mount Maunganui carpenter Alban Taylor was killed in action in Bapaume, France on 27 August 1918. He was buried in the Grevillers British Cemetery. In 2014 Tauranga's 'Field of Remembrance' was created comprising 107 white crosses in memory of the men from the Tauranga area who died during World War I (1914-1918). Each cross carries a red poppy and the name of an individual who died. Text and photograph © Debbie McCauley (2014).
