World War I Memorial: St George’s Church (Gate Pā).

The Gate Pā World War I memorial comprises a St. Anne marble tablet with a scroll border in red and black and dark wood panel mounting. It was unveiled on 14 November 1920 and lists nine soldiers from Gate Pa who lost their lives in World War I:

  1. Thomas Clemson (1871-1916). (Auckland Infantry) France
  2. Francis Alvar Fenton (1895-1917). (Auckland Infantry) France
  3. John Grant (1889-1916). (Mounted Rifles) Egypt
  4. John Andrew Bathurst Kerr (1876-1917). (Camel Corps) Gaza, Palestine
  5. Harry Wensley Kirk (1890-1918). (Auckland Infantry) England - Measles
  6. William McKinlay (1893-1918). (Auckland Infantry) NZ - as the result of War Service
  7. Herbert Pengelly Mansel (1895-1918). (Mounted Rifles) Palestine - Malaria
  8. William Charles Leslie Reeve (1896-1917). (NZ Rifle Brigade) France
  9. Robert Francis Willis Wall (1892-1918). (Auckland Infantry) France
