Herbert (Bertie) Henry Glasspool (R.N.V.R) was born 31 May 1890. Early in the First World War he signed up with the Duke of Cornwall Light Infantry and was invalided out on account of an injury received in 1916. Back hime in England he was “white feathered” and in response to this, joined the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserves. During is Naval service he harried a camera with him and compiled after the war a facinating photograph album.

Album originally belonged to Graham’s maternal grandfather Herbert (Bertie) Henry Glasspool (R.N.V.R). Bertie signed up with the Duke of Cornwall Light Infantry in 1914 and was invalided out on account of an injury in 1916. However he was “white feathered” back home and so joined the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserves. From 1917 to 1919 he commanded the Q Ship H.M.S. Partridge II…Photographs taken aboard the Partridge II near the Island of Malta (Grand Harbour or Il Port il Kbir). c. 1918
