Armistice Day 2016 marked the 98th anniversary of the end of the First World War, at 11am, on the eleventh day of November, 1918. The armistice was signed between the Allies of World War 1 and Germany, in France. The RSA with the Rotary Club of Otumoetai held their annual morning service at the Kopurererua Valley Reserve from 11am. The 2016 service included the unveiling of a memorial plaque commemorating the lives of the men from the Tauranga District who died as a result of their service in WWI. It was organised by the Rotary Club of Otumoetai who have planted totara trees in this area of the reserve as a living centennial memorial to these men. Photo: Fiona Kean.
