Mary was born in 1777 in Nunnery Somerset .

Mary married John Self  by banns on the 9 May 1803 at St John  The Baptist Church Chilcompton. Somerset

  Both Mary and John signed with a X .

The witness's to the wedding were Daniel Hollwey and James Purcnell, the Parish Clerk . John's occupation was given as Sojourner .

Husband John  joined the 1st  Dragon Guards as a Private  on 25th June  1792 This is i from the Napolenoic War Indexes

On 29 December 1804 John was admitted as in Inpatient to the Salisbury Infirmary .

John joined the 17th Dragons on the 22 February 1806 for the Napoeonic war

John, Mary and  family lived in Chilcompton all their married life

After John died in 1849 Mary lived with son Job and his family in Chilcompton

Mary Died on 26 th October 1872 age 97   in Chilcompton and is buried in St John the Baptist church  yard with her husband John  

Children of John and Mary are Isaac b 1805,Valentine b 1814, Elizabeth b 1816 ,Joseph b 1823,Job b 1825

It is interesting to note that in 2010 descendants of daughter Mary still  lived in the village of Chilcompton
