Katikati men Samuel Dickey and James Thorpe were just two of many people who died during the pandemic that swept through New Zealand in 1918.

This photograph was taken outside the "hall hospital" in Katikati during the pandemic. This hall was situated in Macmillan Street, Katikati. It was the old Katikati Settlers' Hall and was turned into a hospital in order to cope with the influx of patients during the pandemic. The hall was demolished during the late 1950s.
