Be sure to highlight these key dates on your 2011 arts calendar.

From October 11-16 this year, Katikati will be buzzing with visitors watching the eight finalists in the mural contest paint their murals live in front of the public.

For this third festival, the theme is ‘In a Land of Plenty’, reflecting the name of our region, the importance of horticulture to the area and the abundance of all that makes life good.

During the week, there will be a number of exhibitions, displays and performances showcasing the wide variety of artistic, theatrical and musical talents that exist in the area.

The entries in the sculpture contest will also be displayed in the centre of town near to the now-famous giant rugby ball of Katikati.

The highlight of the week will be the prizegiving event on Sunday, October 16 when visitors will get to see all the completed murals shown together, vote for the ‘people’s choice’ award and see the overall winning mural revealed.

This mural will subsequently be hung in Katikati as part of the mural town’s collection.

The remaining murals will be auctioned at a special gala event to be held at Décor Gardenworld in Bethlehem on November 3, the garden setting highlighting the murals’ potential to be used as stunning garden art.
