George Cecil Stewart (1883-1918) was the grandson of Katikati founder George Vesey Stewart. He was Killed in Action during World War I (1914-1918).

George Cecil Stewart was born on 26 December 1883 (reg. 1884/1270). His parents were Mervyn Archdale and Phoebe Stewart (nee Gledstanes). He was the first baby baptised in the newly opened St Peter's Anglican Church in Beach Road, Katikati.
George with his sisters Evyleen and Mary.
George married Grace Irene Ward in Hamilton on 12 August 1915. He was a farmer before he enlisted in World War I (1914-1918).
He embarked with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, 30th Reinforcements E Company, on 13 October 1917 from Wellington aboard the Arawa. They were bound for Liverpool in England. George was fighting on the Western Front with the Wellington Infantry Regiment.
Private George Cecil Stewart (Service No: 60004) was killed in action at Le Cateau, France, on 1 October 1918. He was aged 33. George is remembered on the Grevillers (New Zealand) Memorial, Grevillers British Cemetery, Pas-de-Calais, France.
Grace died in 1965, aged 73 (reg. 1965/39311).
