Mary Sophia Ethel Stewart, known as 'Ethel', was the grandaughter of Katikati founder George Vesey Stewart. Her parents were Mervyn Archdale and Phoebe Stewart (nee Gledstanes). Story by Debbie McCauley.

Mary Sophia Ethel Stewart (aka Ethel) was born in Katikati in 1882 to Mervyn Archdale and Phoebe Louisa Hornridge Stewart (nee Gledstanes).

She married Robert Rutland Turner of Katikati in 1916 and they lived at Turner's Road in Apata. Turner Road was named for brothers Robert Rutland Turner (1882-1927) and William Henry Turner (1884-1965) who owned the land. Robert embarked on 13 November 1917 to serve during World War I (1914-1918).

Ethel died in Tauranga in 1980 and was cremated there.
