Caption

Black and white photograph of the Surtees family at Tahawai Railway Station in 1940. Katikati photographer Emily Charlotte Sophia Surtees (nee Stewart) (1857-1957) is on the far left leaning on a walking stick. Two of her daughters are with her as is her son Richard Scott Surtees (known as Scott). Emily's husband Richard had died the previous year at Katikati and she was moving to live in Torbay, Auckland which accounts for the many packages and potted plant waiting for pickup at the railway station. Emily died in Torbay, aged 99, on 2 May 1957. She was cremated at Waikumete Cemetery. Photograph made available to Tauranga City Libraries courtesy of Ellen McCormack and Elizabeth Smith (Marton). Tauranga City Libraries Image Number: 13-1444.
