Richard Scott Surtees (known as Scott) was born at Stanford in Katikati on 28 February 1886 to Richard Viliers and Emily Charlotte Sophia Surtees (nee Stewart). This black and white photograph of Scott shows him standing by some milk cans on a cart being drawn by two horses in Katikati in c1909. Behind them is a picket fence. The farm was on Surtees Road (now Hikurangi Road) in Katikati. Scott signed up for World War I (Service No. 13/1067A) on 15 December 1914, seeing action at Gallipoli and in Egypt. He was discharged on 13 December 1918. Scott died in Torbay, Auckland on 12 July 1955 and was buried at Waikumete Cemetery.
