John McCauley (Snr) along with his second wife and family sailed for New Zealand from Liverpool on 15 September 1876 on the ship Jessie Osborne, arriving in Auckland on 19 December 1876. They were part of George Vesey Stewart's 'Ulster Plantation' at Katikati. On Friday 10 February 2012 McCauley family descendants gathered for a three day family reunion that was held at Te Puke, Tauranga and Katikati. On the final day of the reunion Bob Anderson and Joan Simpson cut the reunion cake at Katikati RSA with the axe used by World Champion Axeman George Thomas McCauley (1884-1938).
