Headstone of Frances Josephine Boylan (1860-1879).


Frances Josephine Boylan was born in Ponsonby, Auckland, New Zealand, in 1860. She was known as 'Fanny'. Her parents were Thomas and Mary Theresa Boyan who married in Dublin, Ireland, in 1847. Frances died at age 19 in Tauranga on 24 February 1879. The broken column on the obelisk represents an early death and the lily the innocent who died young. Frances shares the obelisk with her mother Mary Theresa Boylan who died at the age of 83 in 1907. Text and photograph by Debbie McCauley (1 October 2016).
