Peter Grant has been described as a deserter from the British military who became a 'pakeha' Māori, the only known person of European descent that adopted the Pai Mārire Māori religion, and a horse thief as well as an early Te Puke settler. Text and photograph by Debbie McCauley (1 October 2016).
